The Finisher

The Finisher shows up last, and the Finisher knows it. Every pipe, wire, and duct in the building is about to disappear behind their walls forever. Nobody will ever see the Plumber's beautiful work. They'll see the paint. So the Finisher's oath is simple: the last coat is the first thing they see.

Every Finisher starts as a Hanger. You lift sheets, you set screws just under the paper (never through it), and you stagger your seams like bricks. You also learn about stilts, which are optional, and courage, which is not.

Then comes the mud. Tape, fill, finish. Each coat wider and thinner than the last. Patience is the real tool, and the Hangers with a steady knife become Tapers, who can feather a joint so smooth it just vanishes.

But there's a ghost in every wall. The Seam Specter. It's pale lavender, shaped like a sheet of drywall, with a glowing zipper seam down its middle and screw heads for eyes. In normal light you can't see it at all. It lives in nail pops, bubbled tape, sanding swirls, and patches nobody primed. Hold a work light flat against the wall, though, and suddenly it's everywhere, waving at you.

The Finisher doesn't panic. The Finisher spot-primes every patch, every time. That's the Primer Oath, and it's how you keep the Specter from coming back as a shiny ghost-patch on the wall.

The legends at the top are called Level-Five Legends. They roll the last coat with the Endless Roller, cut a ceiling line so crisp it looks drawn with a ruler, and step back. The wall is perfect. The Specter is gone. And nobody will ever know how hard that was. That's the job. The Finisher loves it anyway.
